All Star Performance GAA Camp
in association with Michael Murphy Sports

Date: 30th March to 2nd of April
Time: 9:30am to 3pm
Age Group - Boys & Girls 12yrs to 16yrs

This exciting four day training camp gives an opportunity to young athletes to train like an all-star Gaelic football player.

Learning about the key physical and skill components, nutrition practises, and strength and conditioning methods performed by the modern day Gaelic footballer. The camp is structured in such a way to maximise learning, performance and fun!

1. Physical components, nutrition methods and performance testing - Coach Michael Boyle

Donegal Goalkeeper Michael Boyle will identify and provide information on the key physical components essential for Gaelic football. This will enable players to gain an understanding of the key characteristics needed to perform at the highest possible level. This invaluable information will identify specific training methods for each individual to maximise physical development in these fundamental areas.

Michael will also introduce key nutritional information and practises to be used specifically to fuel the body to optimise performance.

Performance testing will be carried out on each individual using scientific measuring tools (Timing gates, jump mat) identifying each player's performance in the following areas.

• Speed 5m and 20m
• Agility
• Vertical jump
• Upper Body Strength
• Speed endurance

Each group will participate in one session with Michael throughout the week.

2. Mobility, Strength and Conditioning - Coach: Peter Witherow

Donegal senior football team strength & conditioning coach Peter Witherow will introduce an upper body and lower body resistance training program, identifying key mobility and strength exercises crucial to athletic performance.

Mobility and resistance training are vital to the development of young athletes, improving strength, power and speed and reducing the risk of injury.

The key focus during these sessions will be technique development, in order to perfect fundamental movement patterns and educating each individual in safe practice during resistance training.

Each group will participate in 2 x 40 min resistance training sessions throughout the week.

3. Speed, Agility and Plyometrics – Coach: Antoin Mc Fadden

Last year’s St. Michaels Gaa senior football captain Antoin Mc Fadden will be coaching sprint mechanics, multi directional speed and plyometrics for speed.

Speed and power are essential components in modern day Gaelic football, during this session Antoin will provide the foundations for each player to maximise development and potential in both of these important areas.

The key focus during this session will be developing fundamental mechanisms to improve each individual’s linear and multi-directional speed and overall power production which is vital for performance. Another key aspect Anton will be focusing on is correct landing and jumping mechanics to improve power production and reduce the risk of injury on the field of play.

Each group will participate in 2 x 40 min sessions throughout the week.

4. Mid Field Play - Christy Toye & Martin Mc Elhinney.

Donegal senior football midfielders Christy Toye and Martin Mc Elhinney will be focusing on key performance indicators of top class mid field play. These areas will include catching, ball handling, contested catching, breaking ball and positional play and tactical awareness.

Midfield is such a crucial area in Gaelic football and both Christy and Martin will be giving a coaching masterclass on how to excel in this position. This intense on field session will prepare each player with the correct tools to deliver a top class performance on the field of play.

Each group will participate in 2 x 40 min sessions with the All Star Coaches in this area.

5. Defensive Play – Coach: Neil Mc Gee

3- time All Star Neill Mc Gee will be coaching what he believes to be the most important factors in being a top class defender. Areas that will be targeted will be tackling, man marking, positional play and tactical awareness.

To be a top class defender in Gaelic football, discipline, ruthlessness, a high level of concentration and split second decision making is essential. Neill will be coaching and encouraging each individual to be the best they can be during this intense, focused pitch session.

Each group will participate in 2 x 40 min sessions with the All Star coach in this area.

6. Offensive Play – Coach: Odhran Mac Niallais

Odhran will be coaching what he has found to be the most important and effective elements to produce top class offensive play. Areas Odhran will be focusing on will be shot selection, point execution, goal execution, shooting under pressure, positional play and tactical awareness.

As the game has become more defensive over the last number of years offensive play has become really challenging. Odhran will be pushing each individual to the max on how to breakdown tight defences during this high intensity session.

Each group will participate in 2 x 40 min sessions with the All Star coach in this area

7. Conditioned games - All Coaches

The conditioned games will take place during the last two sessions of each day. These games give each individual the opportunity to combine and attempt to execute the tips, skills and techniques acquired throughout the day in game play.

Throughout the week each group will get the opportunity to wear a GPS system which is used to monitor each individuals movement during gameplay. Each group will receive a report on how they physically performed during the games.

This state of art scientific measuring tool will provide each individual with comparisons with their peers in many different performance measures listed below:

1. Total Distance Covered
2. Total Sprints Exerted
3. Total High Intensity Efforts
4. Peak Speed
