Established in 2012 on the renowned tourist and nightlife street of Jalan Sosrowijayan, Oxen Free was one of the first (of now many) beer gardens in Yogyakarta. Initially established as a place for locals and travellers alike, Oxen Free acts as a melting pot for local artists, musicians and personalities to meet, interact and share with visitors to Yogyakarta.

Oxen Free is located in an historic Dutch colonial building meters away from Jalan Malioboro. Its solid, safe walls and large back garden offer respite from the hussle and bustle of the busy streets that surround it.

Offering a diverse menu of Western and Indonesian food, range of beers and mixed drinks Oxen Free has something to entice all tastes. Also offering a regular program of live music (Keroncong on Tuesdays 8pm) and local DJs and frequently playing host to events and happenings Oxen Free is the perfect place for a nice meal, casual drink or an entire evening of conversation and entertainment.

Oxen Free is also now home to concept store/coffee shop and fashion label OXX. OXX offers a diverse range of products from their own collection as well as a selection of curated product from some of Yogyakarta’s most innovative artists/designers (Paper Moon & Krack! Studio to name but a couple). With items from fashion and jewelry to furniture and artworks OXX is the perfect compliment to Oxen Free’s diverse and eclectic vibe.
