The Mentawai Islands is a large archipelago off the west coast of Sumatra, its an isolated paradise where the jungle meets an ocean full of pristine coral reefs and unmatched waves.

Very few surfers return from here disappointed with wave quality, quantity & consistency, its known across the globe as having “the best waves in the world” a quote that is rarely disputed. Being so close to the equator the winds here are extremely light and variable unlike other parts of Indonesia which are strongly affected by seasonal trade winds. Which in turn gives us so many more surfing options everyday.

M.I.A Surfcamp is located at the northern end of the Mentawais which happens to also be the most wave rich. We are smack bang in the middle of over 10 islands each with pristine beaches and coral encrusted lava rock reefs with an amazing number of surfing set-ups, 4 "out the front" and over 25 within a half hour of camp accessible on one of our new high speed locally built long boats.
