Fakultas Biologi UGM 5.12

Faculty of Biology Universitas Gadjah Mada was established on September 19th, 1955. The Faculty offers a range of subject areas of Biological Sciences for prospective students at undergraduate, master, and doctorate levels. Biology study program for undergraduate level was officially established in 1995 by the merger of three separate departments which specialized in zoology, botany and environmental science. Recently, the undergraduate program has the new curriculum consists of the following three streams : (i) Biodiversity and Environmental Biology (ii) Functional Biology, and (iii) Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.

Over the years, Graduate Program on Biological Sciences which consists of Master of Biology (M. Sc.) and Doctor of Biology (Dr.) has established itself as one of the finest gradute program and the leading provider for research and education of tropical biology in Indonesia.

In 2007 and 2008, the Faculty further improved educational system funded by World Class Research University Grant (WCRU-UGM) sponsored by the university. Currently, Faculty of Biology has been implementing the I-MHERE programs sponsored by World Bank Project, focusing on improvement of ESD (Education for Sustainable Development)-based research for biodiversity conservation and quality improvement for postgraduate education.

Faculty of Biology UGM is accredited by the ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) and Certified as World Class Quality Standards for Academic Services (ISO 9000:2001) by World Quality Assurance (WQA). With its profile, and its academic resources, achievements, systems and processes, the Faculty of Biology is widely acknowledged as one the best in the country.
