My Personal Egg Art Story

I am Margit Jakab and I have loved painting for more years than I can remember.

This page About Me, I'd like to introduce myself to you, my visitors, and tell you the story of my life and how I got into egg painting.

Margit Jakab
Early Years

My interest and love for painting are rooted from my childhood, growing up in a Transylvanian village in Romania. During this time, when i was a child, all my school books were full with drawings and sketches.

By the time i was 15 years old, I moved to the closest city and started working in a weaving factory, where I worked about nine years with a dream to become a painter one day. Therefore in the same time I signed up for an art school where i study drawing and painting for two years. After that I went to High School for three years. During this time I got married to Levente Jakab, who has been my beloved husband ever since.

In 1979 I was lucky enough to get a job in a porcelain factory where I have worked many years. In 1980 our first son was born who we named after his father Levente. Two years later, Dezso our second son was born. In my the last year at the porcelain factory I was the winner of a painting competition with my self designed and painted dinnerware. That was the first time my painting, design and artistic talents were recognised.

One year before the Romanian revolution, with a hope to provide a better future for our children, we fled to Hungary as refugees.

Not long after, I began working in Budapest, as a knowledgeable painter of fine Porcelains. It was also during this time I was rewarded and able to share and teach my craft to others.

Starting over was not easy, but my passion inspired me. I worked hard developing my art skills, while also working numerous jobs to support my growing family. Eventually I was blessed and managed to acquire my very own Painting Studio.
Get into Egg Painting

Searching for a part time job I get in touch with an art and craft agency, who helped people selling they products. After they have seen my previous works offered me to paint couple of chicken egg samples.

And believe it or not it was an incredible success for the firs time. My part time job soon become a second full time job. From year to year I have had more and more order...by 1994 I have quit my job, I founded my firm the Jakab Ltd (Jakab Bt.) and painted eggs only. Ever since I do what I love the most: paint. A few years later I was participated in many egg exhibitions at home and abroad and my painted eggs were found in most art and tourist stores, markets and museums(please note, this is a Hungarian site). In the late nineties every Easter and Christmas I held decorated egg presentation in the Kempinski Hotel Budapest, where I also taught Hungarian celebrities painting eggs (please note, this is a Hungarian site) and then the decorated eggs created by them have been auctioning off and the income has been offered for charitable purposes. I have been in TV shows couple of times as well. This day decorated eggs painted by me could be found in many countries and have a great success everywhere.

Last few years I decided to paint others things beside eggs to extend the business and my knowledge. In the beginning was painting Christmas ornaments than gift and jewelry boxes, wine bottles and many more.

In 2008 I joined the Cluj County Association of Fine Artists in Transylvania and began to learn oil painting. We are going to fine art camps every summer where we help and learn from one another. Since, we had few expositions and a lot of fun. Here you can read few article about that (please note that this is a Romanian site what you can translate with Google Translate).

Please, feel free to Contact Me Directly, for any questions or suggestions regarding egg art. I would like to hear from you!

Sincerely, Margit Jakab
