American Corner Pecs 3.12

Az Egyesült Államok Külügyminisztériuma 2000-ben indította el világszerte az American Corner hálózatot. Azóta több száz Cornert hozott létre mintegy 60 országban. Magyarországon 2004-ben Pécsett jött létre az első iroda.

Az American Cornerek regionális információs- és programközpontként működnek, ahol az amerikai kultúráról, társadalomról és aktualitásokról tájékozódhatnak az érdeklődők. A Cornerek szemináriumoknak, az angol nyelvtanulást elősegítő programoknak adnak otthont, valamint találkozókat szerveznek különböző, az USA-val kapcsolatos témák amerikai és helyi szakértőivel. Kiemelt feladatuk továbbá ingyenes könyvtár működtetése, ahol amerikai témájú könyvek, DVD-k és oktatási segédanyagok kölcsönözhetőek.

A pécsi Corner, az EducationUSA hálózat hivatalos tagjaként, szintén az USA Külügyminisztériumának felügyeletével, hiteles és elfogulatlan információkat közvetít az Egyesült Állomok akkreditált felsőoktatási képzéseiről és a magyar diákok számára is elérhető ösztöndíj-lehetőségekről.

The American Corners Program is a United States Department of State-sponsored initiative inaugurated worldwide more than 10 years ago.
Since 2000, the U.S. has launched almost 400 American Corners in approximately 60 countries.

American Corners serve as regional resource centers for information and programs highlighting American culture, history, current events, and government. American Corners typically host discussion groups, seminars, digital video conferencing (DVCs), poster exhibits, and meetings with U.S. and local specialists on a wide range of American-focused topics. They act as a regional repository for the use of American-themed books, videos, DVDs, and CD-ROMs and provide free internet access and educational materials.

The Corner in Pecs is also part of the EducationUSA global network of more than 400 advising centers, supported by the U.S. Department of State. EducationUSA centers actively promote U.S. higher education around the world by offering accurate, unbiased, comprehensive, objective and timely information about educational institutions in the United States and guidance to qualified individuals on how best to access those opportunities.

In order to fully meet the needs of our valued members the library service is accessible upon request by phone (+36.72.500.386) or via e-mail (pecs@americancorner.hu) other than the set regular hours.

Library members may return any American Corner Pecs library item at the Northern Infopoint BOOK DROP of the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter during opening hours of the Infopoint (entrance through Ledina Gate, Felsővámház u. 52.).

Opening hours of the Northern Infopoint:

Winter opening hours (November 1 – March 31): Monday: CLOSED Tuesday – Sunday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summer opening hours (April 1 – October 31): Monday – Sunday: 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
