Little Don Pepper 2.52

Little Don Pepper pays homage to the struggle of Don Facundo Bacardi, his family and the story of not only their survival, but also their eventual success through times of hardship. My legacy cocktail is inspired by Don’s perseverance to keep going, to be the best and his ability to never give up, besides the numerous struggles he and his family faced.

Last year, my home country Nepal was struck by a devastating earthquake, much like the one that claimed two of Don’s children in 1852. Thousand of lives were lost but one of the most heartbreaking scenes I witnessed was the suffering and hopelessness of the people- without family, disabled, homeless and hungry.
Before the earthquake, these people had dreams for a better life, to build something, and become someone- just like Don Facundo. But now, these dreams have been shattered due to their situations- life is a struggle for many after the earthquake and all they can try to do is survive.

My legacy cocktail is therefore dedicated to these people, not just in Nepal, but all over the world- people who feel like they are constantly struggling against the harsh realities of life with little hope. However, just as Don Facundo didn’t give up on his dreams to create one of the best rums in history, these people shouldn’t give up on their dreams either.

It took Don Facundo 10 years to craft his Superior Rum. Neither the earthquake nor subsequent bankruptcy could stop him from chasing his dreams. The Bacardi family didn’t stop even after they were exiled or after their distillery caught fire. They fought hard and came back stronger. More than 150 years later Bacardi’s legacy remains as the best rum in the world. Don Facundo achieved his ultimate dream.

So let my legacy cocktail act as a symbol of hope for those who need it, as proof that if you keep on fighting, your dreams are still alive. Since Nepal is a country famous for it’s natural raw ingredients and spices, all the recipes in my drink are raw and fresh day to day ingredients that help to compliment and enhance the flavor of Bacardi 8.

My legacy drink is based on the hardship, perseverance and ability to overcome struggle that Don Facundo proved. He is an example to all to never lose hope and never stop pursuing dreams. This is a message I think many people can use. Salute.
