Paneio or Panio is a mountain of Attica with an elevation of 648 meters and is the second tallest in southern Attica after Ymittos. It is located between Keratea and Kalyvia Thorikou. It separate two other mountains of Mesogeia including the Attic Olympus and Merenda, places surrounding the mountain includes Sakka, Feriza, Kalyvia Olympou, Galazia Akti and Nea Kouvara. The highway connecting Athens via Glyka Nera and Cape Sounio and Lavrio runs in the northeast and once a railway track was also located thereIn the southeastern part features an ancient cave which according to sources where the Nymphs were located, to Pan, which receives its name to the mountain and Apollo. Excavations began in 1902 by the American Institute of Classic Studies of Athens in which it brought to light several monumental reliefs which believed to be holy during the ancient and Roman times.The most important of those were small offering reliefs. It presented Pan sitting "by the caves" which played with a syrinx and beside the dancing Nymphs. Hermes was present to take to the dance round the altar. In which continued for those depicting the music lover Archedemus of Thera held a hammer and a chisel in which gave back that reliefs.
