The Department of Economics of the University of Crete, which is part of the Faculty of Social, Economic and Political Sciences, was established in 1987.

Its role to teach and promote research in economics. The department is internationally renowned for its research in economics, as well as for the high-quality education and professional development opportunities offered to its students.

The Departmental staff is comprised of twenty two faculty members and specialized research and administrative personnel.
