Just 15 minutes out of town in front of a magnificent green mountain Benitses has regained a lot of its charm, all bee it with a new character and is slowly becoming one of the best coastal villages of Corfu. There are numerous traditional taverns around a small, but well maintained square, several places where you can sit and enjoy a drink or snack right on the beach, beaches clean enough to drink their water, water sports, sunbeds, showers, the lot.

Being right next to the road the beaches can become both noisy and crowded, but if you want something quieter a ten minute walk in either direction will take you to much simpler and quieter surroundings.

The new marina which will reach full completion before the end of 2011 is already attracting numerous yachts to spend time adding to the charm and character of the village and helps to maintain and encourage some of the best fish taverns of the island.

When you need a change of scenery the Achillion palace and traditional village of Gastrouri are within walking distance and if you feel up to it there is a fantastic hike, about an hour long, to the British water works.

There is a strange attraction to this village which is hard to put into words. Perhaps it is the lush mountain behind it, or the charming beaches along the road where you can by fresh fish if you are up early enough, or the idea that royalty used to live in the hills just above, whatever it is, it is still there.
