Φλοίσβος Σελιανίτικα 3.14

1921.
The old house has just burned. Letters are sent to my grandpa, working in New York (as a dishwasher), to return back home since his elderly parents would have nowhere and no one to turn to.
Grandpa, with whatever little he’s come to know and a few savings, builds what still stands even today. All stone constructed, two floors, a small tavern and two rooms for his parents on the ground floor and eight two by two (2X2m) rooms on the top floor (without a WC). All in all for that time and age a most innovative touristic facility. Something unique for the entire Northern Peloponnese.
The years passed. The world’s II War came. The building was transformed into the headquarters for the occupating forces. After the war, in the 50s, it then achieved an acclaimed reputation. Great singers resided there from time to time, as there’re no other similar facilities in the area.
At the end of the 50s and in the beginning of the 60s, additional touristic facilities were constructed in the village (those had a WC). A few rental rooms are also built (having both a kitchen and a WC). My father, also builds a few. The inn however has started to deteriorate, but his old clientele still come to stay. My mother cooks for them and we all eat together (…good food)!
Surprisingly mid 60s! the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, shake, parties (every hotel had by then a dancing floor) bonfires on the beach. The flower-powered generation had started.
That’s how I grew up.
Nowdays, toping 50, with my wife still withstanding my craziness and with my two daughters (my height by now) we’ve decided to reopen the tavern.
May God be merciful! They’re three and I am one (perhaps I should have thought about it better….)
