Le Tapis Farmhouse:
Welcome to our home in Charente. As a family we spend the greater part of the year in Tanzania, East Africa, but spend a few months enjoying the European summer and also celebrate Christmas here most years. We hope that you enjoy your stay and that you have time to appreciate some of the many great aspects of the area that we have come to love.

About the Area:
Although Le Tapis is a relatively remote rural Hamlet, it affords access to many interesting natural and historical areas. The nearby town of Angouleme is a buzzing university town with a classic blend of French modern town life and baroque Gallic history. Bordeaux needs no introduction, and the coastal areas of Charente Maritime around La Rochelle are full of traditional fishing communities and rich Belle Epoque architecture and history. The countryside around Le Tapis is redolent of a time past - sleepy hamlets melt into vast farmlands that are overlaid by large tracts of woodland and transected by stream and river courses. Bird life is abundant and varied and wild fruit trees and bushes provide a summer long profusion of pickings during any country ramble. The French love of "Le Cyclisme" finds a home in Charente where traffic is light and narrow, wandering country roads many.
