Le Rocher 2.09

Situated in the green rolling hills of Poitou-Charentes on the edge of the village of Luchapt, Le Rocher is to be found at the end of a lane, providing a very secluded and peaceful spot. This old farmhouse has been lovingly converted into a welcoming and very well-equipped holiday home.

Le Rocher sleeps 7. However, should you have a smaller party, please do get in touch as we may be able to offer you a discounted rate.

We have holidayed here as a family since our children were 3 and 6, so over the past 5 years we have worked out what is needed when you are on holiday in this beautiful area. It doesn’t take long to let go of all the stresses and strains of life at home, to slow down to the pace of life in rural France. We have had lots of friends and family stay with us, and some have holidayed independently too, and they all say how relaxing and re-energising staying here has been. And most importantly, for us anyway, it is time together as a family just to have fun!

The master bedroom has a king-sized bed and an en-suite shower room, and there is a separate bathroom and WC. There is a TV (although no aerial) and DVD player (which can also play CDs), and an ipod docking station in the main salon, as well as an additional TV/DVD player in the spacious attic room, but we don't have WiFi. In the attic there are 3 beds, though two are slightly smaller in size and therefore more suitable for children.

Outside, there is a large private garden, with an above-ground pool – (6m x 4m) and a barbecue on the deck. The large deck provides a perfect place to enjoy the uninterrupted views of the countryside and there is a path that leads down to a small river, where the family can picnic and children can paddle and explore the rock pools.

Nearest town: L’Isle Jourdain, (15 min drive) with supermarket, outdoor pool with slides, café (with free wi-fi) and excellent boulangerie. It also offers bungee jumping from the viaduct!

Nearby activities –
- Vallée des Singes, Romagne (40 mins). Big monkey park. Highly recommended.

- L’île aux Serpents, La Trimouille (30 mins). Snakes, otters, meerkats etc. Good idea to go at feeding time (check leaflet).

- Planète des Crocodiles, Civaux (30 mins). These last two offer a cheaper joint ticket for both places.

- Géants du Ciel, Chauvigny (40 mins). Terrific aerial show of eagles, owls, herons etc in a very pleasant castle ruin setting.

- Parc des Animaux, Hiesse (35 mins). Low-key, but rather a nice outing with a restaurant.

- Moussac (15 mins) boasts a canoe and kayak centre with beautiful trips down the River Vienne.

- Oradour sur Glane (40 mins). A village whose inhabitants were massacred by the Germans in World War 2 has been left as it was, as a moving memorial.

- Outdoor heated pools (with slides) in Bellac and L'Isle Jourdain.

- There is an inland beach at St.Martin L’Ars, with a beach, swimming area, café and play area. Good fun.
