ABOUT US:
As a licensed guide, François Gauthron has been giving D-Day tours for over 15 years. Gauthron, a native to Normandy, gives passionate tours customized to give you the real D-Day, first hand.

Over the last 20 years, Gauthron has built a guiding reputation that is known around the world. He is proud to say that he has met hundreds of WWII Veterans from the US, as well as the countries on both sides of the war. To truly understand this war, it is essential to talk to both sides. He would be honored to offer you a personalized tour of the D-Day beaches and the Battle of Normandy, given with enthusiasm and passion. Be honest, we all can tell when a tour guide is just "going through the motions" of his job. The last thing you want while on your trip to Normandy is to be stuck with a guide who clearly has no interest in his job and does not truly love what he does. Please be aware that many of the tour "guides" of Normandy will take you to various sites, such as Utah Beach, stop in the parking lot and tell you that you have 15 minutues or so to explore the sites on your own. Gauthron will climb in the bunkers with you and thoroughly explain history to you right on the very ground on which it happened.

To be a licensed tour guide, one must pass an exam and have a comprehensive knowledge of a certain area of touring. The sad reality is that many of the companies and their "guides" in Normandy are simply repeating the same memorized stories day after day, like an actor in a theatre. Don't end up like many visitors who end up with a tour given by a guide who hardly speaks English and has no advanced knowledge in D-Day. Gauthron is unlike any other Normandy tour guide. His family has lived in Bayeux for many generations; his mother was 16 years old and living in Bayeux on D-Day in 1944. It is this background that gives Gauthron the unique perspective and insight on D-Day as both a native Frenchman and an accomplished WWII historian.
