Clavaillon - la ferme et le gîte se trouve à la commune de Birac en Gironde, entre Bazas et Casteljaloux sur D655. Clavaillon - la ferme et le gîte is located in a small village called Birac in SW France near Bordeaux. Clavaillon used to be a tobacco farm from 1880, according to the number scribbled down above our door, and we can still find several people in the village who used to work in Clavaillon when they were young.

We have 12 acres of pasture and 8 acres of woodland. At the farm, we are currently selling vegetables and fruits grown biodynamically. Please visit our Instagram and Twitter accounts (@clavaillon) to know what's on sale.

10 piglets are expected to arrive in early 2017, and some other farm animals would follow soon. We are also opening the farm stay/self catering/gîte in January 2017 with 4 bedrooms for sleep 12, and we will start to take bookings from December 2016.

The area is famous for the Bazadaise breed of cattle which was featured in Rick Stein’s French Odyssey. It also has a medieval cathedral, Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela.

Clavaillon is conveniently located near Bordeaux and Dordogne. It takes 45 minutes to drive to Clavaillon from Bordeaux-Mérignac airport or Gare de Bordeaux-Saint-Jean (TGV station). Eymet, the town located at the Dordogne border and often known as the centre town of British expats in the region, is 1 hour away from Clavaillon.

If you drive 20 minutes to the north, you will reach the Canal de Garonne and the Garonne, running through Bordeaux and Toulouse connecting to the Canal du Midi through to the Mediterranean. The nearest Atlantic coast, including Arcachon and Grande Dune du Pilat is 1.5 hours drive to the west, and, within 30 minutes of drive to the South East, you can find swimming lakes, such as Lac de Clarens. For skiers and snowboarders, the nearest Pyrenees ski resort to us is 2 hours away by car to the south towards the Spanish border.
