Chateau De La Puisaye 3.13

The chateau is surrounded by 27 hectares of parkland, paddocks and beech and oak woods with 4000 metres of walks and alleyways in an 18th century star shape, as well as a large carp pond, orchard and a French-style, box hedged vegetable garden with 19th century greenhouse.

Neglected over the years luckily the gardens still possess many ancient oak, pleached lime, ash and beech trees, as well as the occasional rare find such as the Dutch Elm, the 80 year old Judas and Wild Service Trees.

In 2003, 3 hectares of oak and beech woodland destroyed in the 1999 storm was replanted with 4000 young trees. In 2006 we started renovation of the park with the restoration of greenhouse, the replanting of the original horseshoe lime-tree walk around the carp pond and the planting of 3000 Spring bulbs. Further restoration is planned for the winter of 2008/9.
