The name is also marketed internationally for sweets. The interior design was by French architect Édouard-Jean Niermans in the Belle Époque style.HistoryThe salon was founded in 1903 by the Austrian confectioner Antoine Rumpelmayer (1832 - 1914), and originally named eponymously "Rumpelmeyer". Rumpelmayer's son René, and from 1916 his widow Angelina, continued the café and pâtisserie. It is named for their daughter. It became an institution frequented by elite Parisians, including Marcel Proust and Coco Chanel. The restaurant was owned by the Rumpelmayer family until 1963. In 2005, Angelina was taken over by Groupe Bertrand, a fast food chain, who have expanded the chain in the Middle East and Far East.Other venuesThe original café is at Tuileries. Another boutique is at the Galeries Lafayette on the Boulevard Haussmann, and a Boutique Angelina in the shopping mall at Palais des congrès de Paris.
