Situated on the boundary of the departements Pyrenees Orientales and Aude, sandwiched between the salt lake of Leucate and the foothills of the Corbières Maritimes you will find the village of Fitou, the southern most point on the Mediterranean coast of the department of Aude.
Birthplace of the prestigious wine that bears its name, you can enjoy the quality of its products, sampling them in the wine cellars of the village.
Border town with Spain until the Treaty of the Pyrenees (1659) which links the Roussillon to France, Fitou was part of the defensive line built along the border.
A vestige of this epoch is the château, at the foot of which you will find the village which was established during the first half of the XVIIIth century in an ancient river bed.
You will discover picturesque, winding streets which meander in this valley, the scrubland, a veritable plethora of the fauna and the flora of Corbières Maritimes.
To appreciate the true wealth and beauty of the landscape, rugged as the rocks of the Corbières, as well as the remnants of a pastoralisme, which was intense (low walls of dry stones, capitelles), twisting footpaths which make unforgettable walks, bewitched by the music and perfumes of this typical, special environment, which is, the Corbières Maritimes.

The wine AOC FITOU is the oldest red wine appellation in the Languedoc region of France with the first cru being in 1948. The villages may also produce AOC Corbières, AOC Rivesaltes VDN as well as many other appellations
