The establishment of the church can be traced back to the ministry in Ghana from 1937, of Pastor James and his wife Sophie McKeown, an Irish missionary from the United Kingdom. Over the years, the name of the church has undergone a few changes until 1962 when ‘The Church of Pentecost’ was finally adopted and has remained ever since. The church has continually experienced the mighty hand of God in its ministry and has since ceased to be a gathering of small numbers of believers in Ghana to an internationally recognised church with branches on all the continents.
