Sigma Mining was established in 2012 with the mission to "bridge the gap between global needs for natural resources and the natural supplies of Egypt." Sigma Mining's first project was to establish the salt mines of the Qattara Depression in Egypt's north-western region. With deposits that are thousands of years old and far removed from any source of modern-day pollutants, the Qattara Depression boasts some of the purest salt deposits in the world.Continuing the shift towards market economy that preceded the revolution, private sector companies are now taking part in expanding the mining industry in Egypt
تأسست سيجما للتعدين في عام 2012 آخذه على عاتقها مهمة "مد جسر بين الاحتياجات العالمية للموارد الطبيعية والإمدادات الطبيعية التي تمتلكها مصر" وكان المشروع الأول لسيجما للتعدين هو مناجم الملح في منخفض القطارة في المنطقة الشمالية الغربية من مصر. ويضم منخفض القطارة أنقى رواسب الملح في العالم التي ترسبت عبر آلاف السنين والبعيدة كل البعد عن أي مصدر من مصادر التلوث في العصر الحديث.ومع استمرار التحول نحو اقتصاد السوق الذي أعقب الثورة، أصبحت شركات القطاع الخاص تساهم اليوم في التوسع في صناعة التعدين في مصر.
