كانت مدينة الإسكندرية دائماً من المدن الرائدة في كثير من المجالات وبصفة خاصة في مجال الرعاية الاجتماعية، حيث كان لنشاط الجاليات الأجنبية في هذا الوقت دوراً كبيراً في العمل الاجتماعي.

بدأت فكرة إنشاء مدرسة للخدمة الاجتماعية بالإسكندرية في إحدى اجتماعات الاتحاد المصري لخريجات الجامعات في ديسمبر 1935، ثم تلى ذلك عقد المؤتمر السنوي لاتحاد المنشآت الاجتماعية بالإسكندرية عام 1936، حيث تقدمت فيه مدام/ فيتشر والدكتورة/ كانيسكي باقتراح بإنشاء مدرسة الخدمة الاجتماعية بالإسكندرية لتزويد المنشآت الاجتماعية المختلفة بالأخصائيين الاجتماعيين لرفع مستوى الخدمات فيها، وقد أوصى المؤتمر بتقديم مشروع بإنشاء هذه المدرسة من خلال الاقتراح المقدم والذي تمت الموافقة عليه فيما بعد.

وعلى أثر ذلك تكونت جمعية الخدمة الاجتماعية بالإسكندرية في نفس العام 1936، وكانت تضم لجنتين، لجنة للرعاية وتتكون من بعض الشخصيات البارزة بالإسكندرية برئاسة محافظ الإسكندرية . واللجنة التنفيذية، وتضم بعض الأساتذه والمهتمين بالعمل الاجتماعي.

وقد قامت هذه الجمعية بإنشاء مدرسة الخدمة الاجتماعية بالإسكندرية، وتم افتتاح المدرسة في 17 أكتوبر 1936.


The city of Alexandria is always of the cities leading in many areas, particularly in the field of social welfare, where the activity of the foreign communities at this time a big role in social work.

The idea of establishing a school of Social Service in Alexandria, one of the meetings of the Egyptian Federation for university graduates in December 1935, then followed by the Annual Conference of the Union of social facilities in Alexandria in 1936, which made Mrs.Fischer and Dr.Kaneski proposal to create a School of Social Work in Alexandria to provide the facilities of various social specialists to raise the level of social services, and may have to submit a draft conference recommended the establishment of this school through the proposal and approved later.

And the impact of that was formed the Association of Social Service in Alexandria in the same year 1936, and included two committees, the Committee on Care and consists of some eminent persons chaired by the Governor of Alexandria in Alexandria. And the Executive Committee, and includes some of the professors and those interested in social work.

This Assembly has established School of Social Work in Alexandria, the school was opened in October 17, 1936.
