The Sailors Grave is a WALK IN SHOP. If you dont have an appointment, but would like something done same day, try calling, or just drop by during business hours, and if its not too big, we will fit you in.

WELCOME to the Sailors Grave FAQ page. Before you send an email, or call the shop in a state of panic, take a gander at some of the topics listed below, it may just answer some of your burning questions. If it DOES NOT however help you out in any way, revert to the panic state i mentioned before, and crush everyone who stands between you and the answers you so desperately crave.

ACCOMMODATION:
Staying in Copenhagen is not cheap! Depending on your tastes and your budget, the following link may help you choose something suitable.

PLACES TO STAY IN COPENHAGEN
Some of our international guests have highly recommended this hotel in Copenhagen as it is brand new, very stylish, basic, but about half price
of a regular hotel. WAKE UP COPENHAGEN

AFTERCARE:
My grandpappy once told me that opinions are just like assholes, everybody´s got one dagnabbit! and aftercare advice is no different. Rule number one, LISTEN to your tattooer! they know best. Even if it contradicts what your friend/ uncle/ armchair expert has told you. Otherwise, if you follow the points listed below, it should keep you out of trouble.
#Leave the bandage or plastic covering on for at least three hours.
#Remove the covering and wash thoroughly with warm water and soap. Don't use anything abrasive, but wash it GOOD!
#Pat dry with a clean towel, and let it air dry for ten minutes or so before you apply some aftercare lotion SPARINGLY on the area. Your tattooer will recommend a lotion, but generally, babycare skin lotions like panthenol creme do the trick, or vitamin E or the like. DONT overdo it!
#DONT get it sunburned while its healing, or EVER if you are smart! YES you can go in the sun, and NO, you don't need to wear protective clothing as long as you are sensible with it.
# DONT go swimming or get into any hot tubs for a week, unless the hot tub is filled with semi-nude HOTTIES and you are powerless to resist. If this happens, you may need a touch up on the tattoo later, due to infections caused by the bacterial SOUP in the tub.
#Dont fuss with it too much. Wash it everytime you bathe, then dry and apply lotion. You don't need to wash it nine times a day or constantly apply cream, it wont help!Oh! and like Lemmy says, STAY CLEAN! wash your hands before you touch your new tattoo and apply lotion to it.
#Healing times vary radically from a couple of days to a few weeks depending on a lot of factors, but your tattooer will give you a good estimation of how much time to allow for healing, the physical process, and any restrictions to your daily routine which might affect healing times. New tattoos do not usually affect your lifestyle much, training and working out is normally ok, though full contact sports might need to be toned down for a few days, in case of possible abrasion.

ALCOHOL:
Drinking is strictly forbidden while being tattooed, or anywhere in the shop at all times. It is advisable to take it easy the night before your appointment, as heavy drinking thins the blood, and being tattooed while hungover SUCKS BALLS!

APPOINTMENTS:
If you are a new customer, and would like to make an appointment with one of our tattooers, you will find a direct email link on our gallery page where you can write to each individual tattooer to talk about your idea, or of course drop by the shop in person to make a consultation. We specialize in very specific and varying styles, so if your tattoo idea is better suited to another tattooer, we will recommend that you speak to them, or even somebody else outside the shop in order to better meet your needs. If the tattooer agrees to work with you on your idea, you will probably be asked to telephone the shop to find a mutually agreeable time for either a consultation, or an appointment. All appointments require a deposit.

BANKS:
Customers, especially from outside Denmark, should be aware that there are sometimes restrictions on the allowable withdrawal amounts per day, (normally 2000 kroner) so this should be taken into account while planning your funds. There are several banks in the neighborhood. Link to local A.T.M machines HERE

CASH:
IS KING! The Sailors Grave DOES NOT have facilities for processing credit or bank cards, so unless specifically directed otherwise by your tattooer, your appointment must be paid for in CASH.

CONSULTATIONS:
Consultations are an important part of the tattoo process, as this is the time that you discuss all the particulars of your tattoo and agree on the details and process ahead. You are welcome to write an email to the tattooer you choose to ask about your idea, but generally you will be asked to call the shop to arrange a consultation time to meet in person. Consultations can sometimes be done via email for those of you coming from long distances. If this is the case, you may also need to send photographs of the area to be tattooed, or existing tattoos etc.

CLOTHING:
The tattooing process can get messy! its not advisable to wear your best white clothes, or best anything for that matter, as there is a good chance it might end up with ink on it! Pros bring their own clean towel, and a plastic bag to stow it in, for their own comfort and protection.

CHILDREN:
Are just darling arent they! aaaaaaw! and they are the future after all! but please people, LEAVE THOSE SCREAMING CRYING STINK MACHINES AT HOME!!!!!!!! Seriously, we love kids, and we understand that sometimes it cant be avoided, so you are welcome to drop by the shop with them, but honestly, the tattoo shop is no place for anyone under 18 years old, and we are trying to work, so even though you think its cute that your kid has world champion screaming abilities- we most certainly dont. DO NOT bring children (or babies/ barnevogns) with you when you get tattooed.

DEPOSITS:
You will be required to pay a deposit to secure an appointment time. Generally this will be paid at the time of your consultation, after agreeing on the details of the tattoo. Deposits are usually five hundred Danish Kroner, though you may be asked for a larger sum if your tattoo is particularly large, complex, or time consuming. You will FORFEIT your deposit if you miss an appointment without a minimum twenty four hours advance notice. It is possible to pay deposits via bank transfer or paypal if you are outside of Denmark. Details of this can be discussed with your tattooer.

EATING:
It is a good idea to eat before your tattoo appointment, especially if it is your first! Sometimes people don't because they are excited, but its a good idea to keep up energy and blood sugar levels. Many folk bring snacks and drinks with them to their appointment. We encourage you to do this.

EXCHANGE:
There are several currency exchanges in the local area around the shop. Your local currency MAY be accepted as payment but you must CHECK first with your tattooer.

FRIENDS:
Are great to have! especially when you need a loan! But they are NOT welcome in the tattooing area of the shop! This applies to wives, husbands, girlfriends etc.. Avoid disappointment and boredom by leaving friends and family at home. Friends are welcome to wait in our waiting room of course, but inside the tattoo area, is restricted to tattooers, and customers being tattooed ONLY. The rope borders between the front counter and tattoo area are NOT designed to keep us in!!

HYGIENE:
Cross contamination is a big deal in our shop, so whatever you do, DONT touch anything! ask first! Trash cans, and anything that falls on the floor for example are no go zones, and expect to be wrapped up, washed and bathed in alcohol if you need to use the bathroom, leave the shop, or go outside for a cigarette etc. ASK FIRST before you decide to throw stuff in the trash! there are certain cans for biological waste, paper, recyclables etc..

HOURS OF BUSINESS
The Sailors Grave is currently open from Tuesday through to Saturday from 11am til 6pm. As we are a custom only shop, the hours are subject to change depending on customers and appointment times. Everyone is welcome to drop by at anytime, but PLEASE contact us first if you would like to visit for a discussion or consultation. Just to make sure someone will be here to greet you!
