Tarlov neural cysts;

We have now completed a full follow-up of last year’s patients, who have been operated in both private and public hospital. All the patients had been given up by other doctors, and had typically been living with pain in the sacrum and in the legs/buttocks for multiple years. 90 % of our patients experience a considerable improvement and do no longer need pain-relieving medicine. 10% continuously experience pain and still undergo regular check-ups and rehabilitation. Tarlov Cysts are fluid filled cysts typically placed in the sacrum. Around 5-10 % of the Danish population are thought to have these cysts without showing any symptoms.

Usually the x-ray doctor will not have mentioned the Tarlov cysts on the description of MR-Scan as the cysts are so common and around 85-90% show no symptoms of discomfort. Symptoms:

Tarlov Cysts typically cause pain in the sacrum/tailbone. These pains vary in strength and are typically worsened by physical activity, coughing and standing. The symptoms usually improve after lying down for 30-60 minutes.

Treatment:
