Details

Central Denmark Region is an administrative region of Denmark established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform, which replaced the traditional counties with five larger regions. At the same time, smaller municipalities were merged into larger units, cutting the number of municipalities from 271 before 1 January 2006, when Ærø Municipality was created, to 98. The reform was implemented in Denmark on 1 January 2007.ToponymyThe Danish name of the region means "region of central Jutland", as opposed to Northern Jutland and Southern Jutland. As such, the official English translation of this place name is not verbatim, but rather refers to the geography of Denmark, as a whole.
