Intellectual Property – a(n) (un)justified monopoly

The aim of the ELSA Dresden Law School: "Intellectual Property – a(n) (un)justified monopoly" is to actively learn more about the Law of intellectual property and how its regulations are affecting the economy and to discuss whether these effects are negative or not.

The field of intellectual property law is one of the fastest growing and most challenging fields of law. Nowadays technology is developing faster and faster and by that it is reaching borders, which need to be crossed. New inventions are made and need to be protected. On the other hand, it should also be possible to use such new inventions freely for the greater good and the economic growth.
Since the media are playing a much bigger role in our modern society, the use of pictures, logos and trademarks is much more common but also much easier for everyone. Again, the question is: can and should we regulate and protect the rights of the owner and creator, and to what extent.

To reach the afore mentioned aim we want to create an open and active work atmosphere with a combination of lectures as well as discussions and exercises.
An introductory course to give an overview of the topic will be given and the general fields of intellectual property law will be looked at.
