Founded: March 3 of 1956
The Colombian-American Cultural Center in Barranquilla, a non-profit, binational center (BNC), was created by a group of Americans and Colombians and with aid from the Embassy of the United States. The Center began to function in a rented house until 1962, when it opened its present location with 12 classrooms, a library and a gallery. Today the Main Center has 28 classrooms, an Art Gallery, a Bookstore, a cafeteria and patio.
Across the street there is an annex with a large parking lot, the George Washington Bilingual Library, Education USA, Multimedia, and 4 additional classrooms.
We also have a North Branch with 30 classrooms, an events plaza, a cafeteria, gardens and fountains and 4 large parking lots.
The purpose of this center is to foster good relations between the people of the United States and the people of Colombia. The Center reaches these goals by:
•Teaching English as a foreign language
•Providing a Bilingual Library open to the public
•Offering art expositions and conferences for the community
•Providing free counseling services for persons desiring to study in the U.S.
•Providing a meeting place for U.S. students and English speakers who are visiting the area.
