Hospedaje Rita es parte de la historia de Chaitén por múltiples razones.

La casa, construida a fines de los sesenta, fue parte de una era especial, siendo lugar de reunión de familias de la zona, músicos y autoridades del país.

Tradición familiar…
Rita Gutiérrez García es la nieta de Pedro y Belaisa García, chilenos que llegaron a cuidar las tierras de sus progenitores, asentándose en Chaitén en 1905. Ella ha seguido la tradición de las matriarcas en prestar hospedaje a quienes visitan la provincia de Palena. Primero su abuela Belaisa, anfitriona natural, cobijó y ayudó a familias de diversa procedencia en su aventura de poblar la región y por cierto, a quienes sólo iban de paso o visita, con todas las dificultades de la época.

Su madre, Antonia Martina García fue más allá al construir su casa emprendiendo este proyecto en miras de lo que sus padres -junto con los otros primeros colonos- ya profetizaban sobre estas tierras: Chaitén sería un lugar próspero para el turismo, el comercio y el resguardo de la naturaleza.

Hoy, viajeros de todas partes del mundo se unen en sus espacios, intercambiando experiencias y dejando sus historias en la casa familiar.

Cuna de trabajadores de la tierra y comerciantes, Chaitén ha sido y es la puerta de acceso a la Patagonia norte, punto neurálgico para los atractivos de la zona: ríos, lagos, volcanes, playas, parques y reservas nacionales.

Sus habitantes son sinónimo de resistencia, y no sólo ante el clima y el aislamiento. Su amor a la tierra los ha mantenido en pie y en marcha ante cualquier vicisitud.

Luego de la erupción del volcán Chaitén en mayo de 2008 y la prohibición de entrar a la ciudad, un grupo de “rebeldes” (como fueron llamados por el Estado) insistieron en conocer el estado de sus viviendas y buscaron formas de volver a habitar la ciudad. Con tenacidad y sólo en base a lucha, voluntad e instinto, se mantuvieron en la zona hasta asegurarse que agua, aire y tierra estuviesen limpios y así recuperar sus casas. Entre aquellas personas estaban Rita y sus hermanas. Repoblar se ha vuelto desde entonces, una más de sus actividades, mientras siguen reconstruyendo su amada comuna, ciudad y capital provincial.

Hospedaje Rita is part of the history of Chaitén for many reasons.

The house, built in the late sixties, was part of a special time, being a meeting place for local families, musicians and authorities in the country.

Family tradition...
Rita Gutiérrez García is the granddaughter of Pedro and Belaisa García, Chilean workers who came to care for the lands of their parents, settled in Chaitén in 1905. She has followed the tradition of the matriarchs to provide accommodation to those who visit the province of Palena. First, her grandmother Belaisa, a natural host, sheltered and helped all kind of families in the adventure of coming into the region and, of course, those who only came to visit, with all the difficulties of the time.

Her mother, Antonia Martina García went further and she built her house, in terms of what her parents - along with the other first settlers – had prophesied about these lands: Chaitén would be a prosperous place for tourism, commerce and protection of nature.

Today, travelers from all over the world get together in their spaces, exchanging experiences and leaving their stories in the family home.

Cradle of land workers and merchants, Chaitén has been and is the gateway to the northern Patagonia, a neuralgic point for the attractions of the area: rivers, lakes, volcanoes, beaches, parks and national reserves.

"Chaitén has a natural scenery that looks at the forest and the sea indistinctly. It combines a sea spirit with a forest one: the presence of the forest, thick and impenetrable, covers almost the whole of a land furrowed by waters that touch, in its margins, larch millennia.

Its inhabitants are synonymous with resistance, and not only to weather and isolation. His love for the land has kept them upright and on the move in the face of any vicissitude.

After the eruption of the volcano Chaitén in May 2008 and a ban on entering the city, a group of "rebels" (as they were called by the goverment) insisted on knowing the state of their homes and looked for ways to re-inhabit the city. With tenacity and only on the basis of struggle, will and instinct, they stayed in the area until they ensured that water, air and land were clean and thus to recover their houses. Among those people were Rita and her sisters. Repopulate the place has become one of its regular activities ever since, as they are rebuilding their beloved commune, city and provincial capital.
