York Region (The Regional Municipality of York) 5.03

The Regional Municipality of York is made up of nine municipalities and provides services to over 1.1 million residents, 48,910 businesses and 564,000 employees.

York Region has a two-tier government structure, with services provided by the Region and local area municipal governments. The Region provides services for its residents and businesses that include transportation services, transit, water, wastewater, emergency services, policing, human services and growth management.

York Region covers 1,776 square kilometres from Lake Simcoe in the north to Steeles Avenue in the south. It borders Simcoe County and Peel Region in the west and Durham Region in the east.

York Region's landscape includes farmlands, wetlands and kettle lakes, the Oak Ridges Moraine and over 2,070 hectares of Regional forest.
