We Can Change the World Day began when Heather Skoll was inspired at WE Day 2012 to create a WE Day like event in her community of Richmond Hill, Ontario. She asked her neighbour Heather Baker if she would join her. Once she said "yes" We Can Change the World Day was born and gathered local youth volunteers to start its journey.
We Can Change the World Day has developed in to an active player in community as it engages Youth in York Region in volunteerism, leadership, and social action.
Since 2013 we have held three major concert events and numerous creative community events that have raised over $34,000 for a village in Kenya called Oloirien and another $20,000 for a village in India called Kalthana to support these communities with a history of drought and famine.
Through WE Villages Adopt-a-village program we hope to help to break the cycle of poverty through this sustainable development model of 5 core pillars: Education; Clean Water and Sanitation; Health; Alternative Income and Livelihood; and Agriculture and Food Security.
Donations can be made through wecanchangetheworld.ca which will go directly to WE and earmarked for the village for which we are raising funds.
