'Where the Mountains Meet the Prairie' - rugged, windswept mountains rise abruptly out of gentle prairie grassland in spectacular Waterton Lakes National Park. No other park in Canada protects so much within such a small place. Waterton has over 250 species of birds, more than 60 species of mammals, 24 species of fish and 8 species of reptiles and amphibians. The park is found in the Crown of the Continent, one of the narrowest places in the Rocky Mountains, and is a land shaped by wind, fire and flooding. The park's area is 505 sq. km (195 sq. miles).
