The Refuge has helped over 3000 youth since 1999. In 2011 The Refuge served 10, 304 meals, worked with 504 youth (262 new youth), and had 9,262 interactions. The Refuge is more than a place to find food, clothing, personal hygiene products, a place to shower, do laundry and participate in programs; The Refuge is a loving home, compassionate community and family where youth can begin to heal from their horrific past.
Contrary to what many think about our youth, they are just like you and me except 92% of The youth that come to The Refuge have been sexually or physically abused. 78% are presently a ward of the crown. 72% were asked to leave their homes by their parents or caregivers. 100% are feel lonely, terrified and unloved.
The Refuge provides unconditional love where youth feel loved, a sense of belonging, safe, nurtured, and encouraged. The Refuge helps young people heal so that they can move forward in a positive direction.
