Take the ordinary to extraordinary sail or race across an ocean this year!
A world class adventure with a world class skipper. Spring is here and summer is just around the corner, what better time to schedule a sail aboard the Volvo 60 Spirit of Adventure. Our next adventure is a sail from Jolly Harbour, Antigua to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. This really is a once in a lifetime chance to sail with an around the world racing skipper aboard a winning round the world sailing vessel. There are only two positions available so don’t miss out on this opportunity to get an early start on the 2014 sailing season.
The crew will meet aboard the boat on the morning of May 6th for a very extensive training day with skipper Chris Stanmore – Major who has seven years with outward bound and two round the world races as skipper under his belt. CSM is a huge asset to our team and he will challenge and entertain the crew the entire way from Antigua to Lunenburg taking from his former experiences.
You do not need not have sailed for years or thousands of miles to sail aboard this boat, you just have to have a great spirit for adventure. Chris is a skipper trainer for a global yachting company and he will take you from where you are in your knowledge to where you want to be in a safe and controlled environment. He is a natural born instructor, his competence and confidence is infectious.
The boat is commercially coded for offshore passage making so all the safety gear is aboard the boat including self-inflating life vests with harnesses and tethers. Also all food and water are aboard the boat, half the food is freeze-dried and half is fresh food at least for the first few days. The boat sailed to Antigua non-stop from Lunenburg in under nine days and we expect that to stay the same for the return trip to Nova Scotia.
As a crewmember you will participate in all facets of the journey including food preparation, sail handling and selection, navigation (if you have an ipad you can navigate from your bunk), boat handling and watch keeping. This is a great mileage builder for those that are thinking of taking off in their own boat or for those that don’t even own a boat and would like to stretch their ocean legs.
If this adventure is too long ask us about a sail to of from Bermuda. This passage still takes you through the Gulf Stream, one of the most complicated parts of the Atlantic ocean, through to the warm water of Bermuda. It is such a thrill to see the land rise out of the ocean, very humbling and breath-taking. This sail including the training can be done in under a week.

Here is what some of the crew had to say about sailing the boat to Antigua from Lunenburg and the Caribbean 600 in February of this year:

“Unbelievable experience…will definitely do another trip aboard the boat, maybe the Transatlantic race next time.” Brent, Caribbean 600, 2014
“The training was second to none, the boat was run very professionally and safely.” Erik, Caribbean 600, 2014

“I’ve already signed up to do another trip.” Leo, Lunenburg to Antigua, 2013
“I would like to thank Derek, Chris and Patianne. For making a dream come true. In 2001 -2002 watching Amer Sport One sail around the world in the Volvo Ocean Race. I would have never thought that one day I would be crewing on the same boat with 2 skippers, that have some much experience and are icons in the sport of offshore sailing. The experience was so great that the day I got back I signed up for the RORC Transatlantic Race. And I am sure that there will be many more trips and races in the future. Looking forward to getting back on board.” Mike, crew member Caribbean 600, 2014

Take care,

Patianne
