The Southwestern Ontario Chapter of ISCEBS plays a key role in maintaining a "CEBS link" across Canada. The groups represent different segments of the employee benefits community. Members usually are senior representatives from insurance companies, consulting firms, banks, corporations and other benefit organizations.

The role of the board is multifaceted. It promotes the CEBS designation as the pre-eminent designation for professionals in insurance companies, insurance brokerages, the consulting community, and in Human Resources functions within private, public, government, and non-profit organizations.

The Board also serves as a resource to local educational institutions offering classes by identifying course instructors and developing marketing strategies to promote class participation. In addition, advisory groups serve as course/examination advisors and seminar panellists, and as centers of influence and support for CEBS students, often serving as mentors to those who self-study the courses.

Dalhousie University, academic co-sponsor of the CEBS program, also utilizes this network of benefits professionals as a conduit for disseminating information on the academic processes associated with the development of CEBS courses and examinations. Chapter Boards have been instrumental in the CEBS curriculum redesign, sharing their expertise and foresight to make sure that the CEBS program is always current and relevant to the needs of the employee benefits industry. CEBS program staff at the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans utilize the resources of the Chapter Board members to assure the continued visibility of the CEBS designation and to increase CEBS participation.
