School Age Skills Program 2.62

School Age Skills Program is a Licensed School Age Centre in Riverdale. The program operates Monday to Friday, before and after school (7:00AM-8:15AM, 3:00PM-6:00PM) when classes are in session and for full days (7AM-6PM) on PD Days, and during Spring Break, Xmas Break, and through the summer. The program offers breakfast to children attending before school, an after school snack on school days, and a morning and afternoon snack on full days.


The program offers a wide variety of activities for children aged 6 to 12. The program encourages the children to direct play and choose their own activities. On a typical day a child might build with lego, paint a picture, listen to music, set up a play restaurant or pet store, play the guitar, read comic books, do their homework, or just visit with friends.
In the summer months the program focuses on outdoor activity, with plenty of time spent hiking local trails and playing running games on nearby playgrounds. The overall goal of the program is to provide a safe, casual, fun space for children to relax and discover the things that truly interest them. The program also focuses on teaching children the social skills necessary to get along with others and work together. Children are encouraged to take a leadership role in assisting with planning activities, directing games, resolving their own conflicts, and assisting staff in simple tasks like serving snacks, sweeping floors, organizing bookshelves, etc.
