Details

Established throughout 2014, this mentorship program has been developed and presented by leaders within the body art community to help others lead with confidence within the skilled arts of tattooing or body piercing. With a lack of formal regulations and minimal education within the body art community, the development for an educational program was desperately in need. Progressive Mentorship is a group of ego free individuals here to help all levels of practitioners share knowledge and continue to provide the safest working environment for you and your valued clients.

Progressive Mentorship has multiple levels of educational classes available.

Mentorship Level One:
Starting with the introductory Infection Prevention, Best Practices and Bloodborne Pathogens seminars. This 6 hour seminar is available to anyone currently working within a tattoo or piercing studio. It is open to all tattoo artists, piercers, apprentices, staff, sterilization technicians and even Public Health inspectors. If you’re looking to challenge yourself as a practitioner, whether you’re just starting out, or a veteran within the community, you’ll be guaranteed to learn something new and feel inspired to promote safety once the seminar is complete.

What’s unique about this course is that the information shared is what our community has asked for in the past. The content delivered will help you in many ways within your studios. This is more of a gathering of useful information dealing with our day to day operations within our place of business. Some of the topics include studio set up, workplace set up and clean up, disinfection and sterilization, dealing with clients, selling jewellery, promoting yourself, skin preparation, aftercare, troubleshooting, working safe within your workplace, PPE, hand washing, infection control and bloodborne pathogens. Many personal stories are also shared along the way encouraging feedback within the classes.

Many of the topics covered within the seminar are gathered from years of research within the body art community and shared by numerous reputable practitioners and mentors. This is not intended to be just another boring health and safety class. It’s intention is to provide guidance to those who want it, to those who want to share it, and to those who wish continue challenging themselves to grow as practitioners. Information is meant to be shared and the mentors within this program are passionate about seeing progression within their community!

A certificate of attendance will be handed out at the end of the class which you can proudly display within your studio, online and within your portfolio. Although this class is not required by law in many areas across North America, it has been well received by many practitioners in the past and often relate to a yearly attendance without being mandatory.

Level one 6 hour course is $150.00. If you're a Public Health Inspector we have limited numbers of FREE seating available for you. Private classes are available upon request. Travel expenses and accommodations may be required. Click Here for a list of upcoming seminars. Please contact Progressive Mentorship for further information.

Mentorship Level Two: The second level of Progressive Mentorship is requesting to shadow a mentor of your choice for a full day within the mentors workplace. This will allow you to absorb even more information, watching the previously learned workplace practices put into full effect. Shadowing a mentor will prove to be a positive experience for both the mentor and the student. Being able to ask as many questions as possible in a more intimate one on one experience has been proven to be the ultimate learning experience.

This level is only available to those that have attended Mentorship Level One, or a previously accepted form of education voted on by the Progressive Mentors. A formal request to the mentor of your choice will be required. The mentor may approve or deny your request as per the discretion of the mentor. This is not intended as an apprenticeship course. Fees for Mentorship level two will be discussed between the mentor and student. Please contact Progressive Mentorship for further information.

Mentorship Level Three:
The third level of Progressive Mentorship is requesting a mentor to come visit your place of business and they’ll offer suggestions on how to make your workplace safer and will shadow YOU for the full day. The objective of this level is to help you progress within your own work place. Sometimes you need an outside set of eyes to view your studio and to allow feedback in order to move forward. This level requires an open mind to constructive criticism and will guarantee to leave you inspired to make positive changes.

This level is only available to those that have attended level 1 and 2. A formal request to the mentor of your choice will be required. The mentor may approve or deny your request as per the discretion of the mentor. This is not intended as an apprenticeship course. Fees for Mentorship level three will be discussed between the mentor and student. Travel expenses and accommodations may be required. Please contact Progressive Mentorship for further information.

The future of Progressive Mentorship

The future goal is to recruit reputable mentors throughout Canada and the U.S. working together, contributing to the proper education, continuing to keep our community safe and reputable amongst the general public and Public Health inspectors. We’re proud to share information helping to provide a safer environment for everyone involved within the body art community.

Progressive Mentorship is currently looking for more "ego free" mentors to join our team. If you're an established tattoo artist or piercer, and passionate about sharing your knowledge, please contact Jesse Villemaire. Throughout the years as an instructor, Jesse Villemaire has seen an increase in willing participants wanting to learn and share information. He shares this passion with many others as he still continues to learn, motivating him to move forward within the industry, wanting to safely pass on the proper knowledge to the next generation of practitioners in this field.
