Playtime at Dodie’s Preschool

Playtime at Dodie’s is a licensed preschool with one goal ~ to provide a safe environment while preparing your child for primary. This goal is reached by numerous daily activities that enrich their social, academic and personal
skills. An example of such activities are circle time, story time, craft time, sing time, show and tell, structured play, free play, sing time, finger frolics, puzzle time etc. The children enhance their listening and learning skills ~ all through fun activities and play but also have structure and routine which is so very important for primary! Through these activities, the following essential basic fundamentals are utilized:

Theme: Each week we have a theme that continues throughout the week in detail.

Crafts : done daily and are related to the theme, letter or number of the week.

Letter of the week ~ at the beginning of the year , we start with Aa and introduce a new letter each week until completion. Upper and lower case letters are taught along with the phonetic sound and print of each letter.

Numbers: Numerals 1-12 are covered in preschool. A new number is introduced bi-weekly.
Recognition of numbers with relationship to quantity.
Children also learn to make all numerals.

Shapes : 16 shapes are covered throughout the year

Colors: 10 colors are taught

• Reading: the children are introduced to simple sentences related to the theme of the week. A lot of repetition takes place so the children become familiar to articles and prepositions which are the basic words used in sentences in primary.This has proven to be an effective approach to teaching the children how to read and utilize their phonetic skills.

The children become very close to their peers and create friendships that will last a lifetime. Upon completion of the preschool program, the children have a high level of self- esteem, confidence and knowledge that enables them to excel in primary.
