Opened in early 2013 by local musician, Joel Plaskett, The New Scotland Yard was designed to create a comfortable and orderly environment where musicians, engineer, and producer can work together in the same room. The 950 square foot main room has 13 foot ceilings and hardwood floors. Though the walls look like concrete cinder block, they are actually covered in 2″ cork, creating a very balanced and controlled room for both tracking and mixing. Not overly reflective, but lively enough to get a wide variety of sounds and use distant miking effectively. The 550 square foot lobby is wired to record in as well, offering isolation for vocalists or amps when needed as well as provide a more lively sounding room with hardwood floors and cinder block walls.

Equipped to record digitally with Pro Tools, 32 channels of Universal Audio Apollo converters and the complete UA plug ins package, we can also record and mix entirely analog using our stellar sounding Rupert Neve 5088 console, Studer tape machines, quality microphones, outboard pre amps, compressors and analog effects. We can also merge the digital and analog worlds seamlessly using the Endless Analog CLASP system. This allows us to hit tape while simultaneously tracking into Protools, providing analog warmth and digital convenience. We have a large selection of vintage drums, amps, guitars and keyboards.

The New Scotland Yard is located on Portland Street in downtown Dartmouth, just a few minutes from the waterfront and ferry to Halifax. The neighbourhood has great restaurants, coffee shops and bars, including Plaskett's own New Scotland Yard Emporium just in front of the studio.
