WHO IS KAI BUN?

- Canada
- grew up around farm land, in the middle of nowhere
- second of four children
- had a pony for a best friend
- horses were my first love
- art was my second
- Kai is my first name and "Bun" is a reference to my grandmother, who I referred to as "Grandma Bunny"

ARTISTIC PHILOSOPHY
Being "perfect" is subjective. You can only improve with practice, confidence will find you later. Create with feeling, throw purpose out the window! Inspiration is difficult to find, just let it happen --it generally finds you at the worst time.

INFLUENCES:
Serendipity children's books:

As a child, I was completely enchanted with not only the stories, but the artwork. To this day, I still have no idea how they were able to capture so much realism, while keeping their colours so brilliant and childlike.

Animals + Nature:

The pony that I had as a child inspired me in ways I could never explain. He definitely cemented my love of horses. I would spend hours trying to capture his features, trying to bring him to life in my art. I grew up in the country, and got to experience nature first hand for the majority of my life. Nature inspired me to try and portray its brilliance to the rest of the world.

Video games: Final Fantasy VII

This game actually motivated me to draw people. I literally had NO desire to draw humans in general. The way the characters looked was so amazing to me, I had to be able to draw them --as well as the other oddities like; chocobos, mogs, and so on.

Anime:

Anime has spurred my art forward to places I never thought it would go. I was never particularly interested in more well known types of art and artists, such as; abstract styles or Van Gogh. It sounds like heresy, but I just didn't really care for them.

Anime was completely outside the box to me, and woke up new potential, inspiration, and drive where I found none before.

Two specific examples [and good places to start if you have no idea what I'm talking about] are; Studio Ghibli --all of their works, and a series called "Samurai Champloo".

I was forever changed as an artist because of all of these bits and pieces!
