Jockvale Elementary School 3.18

Jockvale Elementary School is known not only for its commitment to strive for academic excellence, but also to develop the “whole child.” In a congenial and co-operative atmosphere among staff, students, parents and the community, a safe and caring environment has been created at Jockvale that is child centered, which helps ensure that all students can strive for and realize their fullest potential. The late Bill Guy, the first principal of Jockvale Elementary School, took great pride in the child-centered approach that his school adopted. This philosophy remains key to everything that makes Jockvale a school “Where We Belong.”

-Jockvale has a student population of 420 students.
-The school offers regular English programs, Early French Immersion program, and the Full Day Kindergarten program with child care.
-After completing Grade 5, students attend Cedarview Middle School and then follow to John McCrae SS.

In 2004 Jockvale was threatened with the possibility of being closed. Our students and staff rallied together to show our community how wonderful our school is and that this is where we wanted to be every day. Our slogan “Jockvale, Where We Belong” was born. One large letter was given to each class to design – it was to reflect what Jockvale meant to them. These letters were then put together and painted into a large mural that wraps around our front foyer for everyone to enjoy everyday. Each and every student in the school that year participated in the creation of this mural and their signatures are on either side of the painting as the artists of this creation. Staff and students are proud of this mural as it represents the everything Jockvale has to offer.
