What is a patient advocate?
A Patient Advocate is a professional (often with a medical background) who possesses the skills to assist patients and families in navigating the complexities of the health care system. A Patient Advocate can help patients in understanding their healthcare needs and ensures their patient's rights are adhered to.

What is your background?
I'm a retired RN with 27 years of experience. In my long career, I have held various nursing positions which has allowed me to develop a well-rounded knowledge base of our healthcare system. I have always been a strong advocator of patient's rights. However, it was a personal experience that led me to this career choice. We all know of someone who "fell through the cracks." I hope to be a bridge over those cracks. Many of us have wished, either for ourselves or a loved one, to have someone with healthcare expertise involved in his or her health care. It could be as simple as accompanying you to a Doctor's visit to as complex as having a loved one critically ill in an Intensive Care Unit.
