In 1981 the Hamilton Gymnastic Academy was incorporated as a non profit organization committed to the development of recreational and elite competitive gymnastics. Under Head Coach Don Marinacci HGA competitive gymnasts trained at McMaster University until 1984. HGA then moved to its first home, a small warehouse space in west Hamilton.

Over the next 6 years recreational and competitive programs expanded so much that by September 1990 HGA re-located to their present 14000 sq.ft. home in the Ancaster Business Park
Each year programs and classes have grown with over 1000 members enjoying the bright, child centred facility. Everything at HGA is set up to keep children safe while learning the fundamentals of gymnastics, having fun and making new friends. The gym holds an Olympic size spring floor, tumbling hill, 2 in ground trampolines, vaulting table, uneven bars, balance beams, special foam apparatus for toddlers and an awesome 50 foot long tumbling trampoline that is used by all members.

HGA offers a variety of recreational gymnastic programs each session. Kindergym programs for girls and boys age 2-5 develop small and gross motor skills using a variety of apparatus. Activities are set to music and follow weekly themes. Gymnastic programs for girls or boys age 6 to 8 years and girls age 9 and up are 90 minutes long, and provide an opportunity for children to learn new skills while working through a level system. Progress reports at the end of each session highlight the child's achievements. New this year by audition or invitation is a program for advanced level girls age 6 and up who do not wish to compete.

Other programs offered include Kicknastics, a boys program that combines gymnastic tumbling and non contact martial arts and an adult class. Also available are Birthday Parties, March Break, PA Day and Summer Camps, School and Community group field trips and much more.

Competitive gymnastic programs have flourished throughout the past 25 years under the guidance of Don Marinacci, founder and NCCP Level 4 head coach. Don and his coaching team have trained athletes who have won 4 Canadian Championships and represented Canada internationally. HGA gymnasts have been successful at both provincial and national levels and have won many individual and team awards. HGA is a member of Gymnastics Ontario and trains gymnasts to compete in the Ontario Competitive Program at levels 4 through 9. Competitive membership is by audition only . Interested gymnasts may book an assessment with the head coach.

HGA staff and volunteers are proud to have had the privilege to teach thousands of students over the years and are looking forward to providing new and exciting programs for the whole family for years to come.
