Meet our awesome staff!

Ellie Bash, M.Sc.

Ellie holds a M.Sc. in Geography from the University of Calgary and a B.A. in Geology from Gustavus Adolphus College (sure you can get a B.A. in Geology, she also minored in theatre). Her research has focused on reconstructing past glaciation in the Wasatch Mountains, Utah, and glacier meltwater contributions to the Bow River, Alberta. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Calgary centred around monitoring glacier change using unmanned aerial vehicles (putting drones to good use). Between degrees Ellie has worked as an instructor both inside and outside the classroom, in addition to guiding hikes in Yoho and Glacier National Parks.

These days, when she's not flying drones, Ellie tries to get out of the city rock climbing, back country skiing or biking as much as possible. If it's not possible, you might find her yarn bombing local trees and pedestrian bridges.

Alison Criscitiello, Ph.D.

Ali loves the cold. Loves it. As a Glaciologist and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary, she studies the history of sea ice in polar regions using ice core chemistry, which involves long months of living in a tent and drilling ice cores in places like Antarctica, Alaska, the Canadian high Arctic, and Greenland. Ali holds a BA in Earth and Environmental Science (Wesleyan University), an MA in Geophysics (Columbia University), and the first PhD in Glaciology ever conferred by MIT.

When she's not busy shivering for science, Ali seeks out the cold for fun, whether working as a climbing ranger in the national parks or guiding expeditions to major peaks in the Andes, Alaska, and the Himalaya.

Jocelyn Hirose, M.Sc.

Jocelyn works for the National Parks of Canada, as a Resource Conservation Scientist. Prior to working for Parks Canada Jocelyn worked as a scientist, science-liaison, science outreach coordinator, and teacher for Natural Resources Canada, Columbia Basin Trust, Parks Canada, and the University of Calgary. She has written technical reports, peer-reviewed research, and citizen science outreach programs. In addition, she has presented to non-profit organizations, at geophysical conferences, and to watershed stakeholders. In her master’s she quantified glacier contributions to a sub-basin of the upper Columbia River Basin in British Columbia. Her studies advanced our understanding of climate sensitivity to the glacierized regions of the basin and its impact on streamflow.

When Jocelyn is not in the office, she can be found climbing or skiing to high places where the complexities of nature keep her motivated.

Anne Rozek, B.S.

Anne holds a B.S. in Geography from Eastern Illinois University and is pursuing an M.Sc. in Geography from the University of Calgary. Her thesis is focused on determining if there is a reliable way to estimate high-elevation mountain weather conditions from low-elevation weather stations. She probably owes her love of geography to the world map placemats that sat at the family dining room table throughout the duration of her childhood. In and around degrees, Anne has worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Calgary, a corps member for the American Conservation Experience, and an interpretation intern at Voyageurs National Park.
Outside of work, you’ll usually find Anne either climbing rock/ice or honing her backcountry skiing skills.
