Fleetwood-Bawden Elementary 2.99

Fleetwood-Bawden School houses approximately 350 students from Pre-school to Grade 5. We are a dual-track school, hosting children in a regular educational program and a Montessori program. Children attending the school include walking students from the surrounding neighbourhood as well as Montessori students who may be eligible for bussing from various parts of the city.

Fleetwood-Bawden hosts morning and afternoon pre-school and kindergarten programs. There are seven regular classrooms from Grade 1 to Grade 5 and six Montessori classrooms, as well as a gymnasium, a music room, a computer lab, and a well-stocked library. Fleetwood-Bawden is situated on a generous playing field where students have access to many sports activities. A full-sized recently updated community playground further enhances outdoor activities for students and community alike.

More important than the physical structure of the building are people and programs which create the positive learning environment found within the Fleetwood-Bawden community. Fleetwood-Bawden boasts a dedicated staff of teachers, educational assistants, secretaries, custodians, librarians, and volunteers who believe in giving students the best possible academic program as well as the social skills they need to become contributing, responsible citizens at school and in the community. At Fleetwood-Bawden, children are encouraged to make wise choices and to become independent problem-solvers. We have recently started utilizing the Leader in Me and 7 Habits of Happy Kids program to instill a sense of leadership in our students.

In addition to providing a strong academic program, staff members devote many hours to extra curricular activities which are available to all students. Such programs include sports activities (soccer, floor hockey, basketball, volleyball), musical activities (recorders, choir), and other activities of interest (games club, after school skating, literature, crafts).

This school also strives to be an "environmentally friendly" school through its promotion of recycling and re-using. Fleetwood-Bawden has led the way for Lethbridge schools in attaining environmental recognition and we continue to be environmentally-friendly by encouraging distribution of our newsletters and School Council agendas and minutes through e-mail.

Fleetwood-Bawden School emphasizes healthy living. We are pioneers in providing high-quality learning experiences to promote healthy lifestyles. We begin each day with the "Health Hustle," offer daily physical education classes, promote monthly "Fruit Fridays," and encourage healthy habits at all times.
