The game of squash is alive and well in the Edmonton region; however, the facilities to serve and grow the demand for the sport are inadequate. After surveying the Edmonton Squash League members and with the closure of MacEwan University last year, Mayfield Club the prior year and now the temporary closure of GARC the need is immediate for more courts in Edmonton. Currently Edmonton has 21 functional courts compared to Calgary’s 61 courts registered with Squash Alberta

All of the facilities except for the Royal Glenora, University of Alberta and Riverbend have only 2 courts. Clubs with only two courts are insufficient to host tournaments, create a true club atmosphere, or center of excellence for our sport.

In order to stabilize the declining access to courts and to have better control of the sports destiny, a passionate group of Squash players has decided to join together to create a society incorporated in the Province of Alberta. The group has put together this business plan to open a member-owned club. The new club will be located on 111 Avenue & 153 Street in Edmonton.

The Edmonton Squash Club new premium facility will be transparent, accessable and sustainable. A club for the Squash Community owned by the Squash Community. The plan includes building the facility in two phases. Phase one will include 4 premium international squash courts, spin studio, basic fitness equipment and minimal change room facilities. Phase 2 includes adding a 5th international court, a North American Doubles, expanded locker room/shower facilities, expanded fitness equipment and food and beverage services. As much as feasible The Edmonton Squash Club is being built around the priorities identified based around the results of the survey conducted last year.

The focus of the club will be providing the Edmonton Squash community with the opportunity to participate in Edmonton Squash League, Tournaments, In house Leagues and the overall development of the members as players.
During the past 18 months we have discussed the potential for this new facility with several Squash players in the city and many have indicated an interest in becoming a founding member. It is now time to confirm your interest.

In order to open the new facility in time for the upcoming fall 2015 season we must raise the required capital by May 15th, 2015. This will be achieved through the purchase of 10 year founding memberships and attracting private investors who will receive an excellent return on investment. It is essential that we have commitment of founding members and investors in place by this date. We would like to hear from all who are interested in participating at this level and at any of the other membership levels as this will give us an excellent indication of the level of amenities we are able to provide in phase 1.
