Church Ranch 3.01

At Church Ranch, our goal is simple: to produce honest, functional cattle that will go out and work for our commercial customers. We feel we have a pretty good understanding of our customers’ needs because we’re part of the commercial industry too, in a big way. On top of our purebred herd, we run almost 400 Hereford cross commercial cows. We fed cattle to finish in our own feedlot for years, and continue to background all of our calves and retain ownership until slaughter. Some of those calves grossed over $2000/head as fats this summer.
We run our purebred cows under exactly the same conditions as our commercial herd; they’re not babied or pampered. Our customers don’t own creep feeders, and neither do we. Nor do we have time for calving problems, bad udders, bad feet or bad temperaments. We know how our cattle will perform under commercial conditions, and can therefore be confident they’ll go out and do the same for our customers.
We’re firm believers in the value of heterosis, and have seen first hand for over 30 years the value Hereford genetics bring to a crossbreeding program. If you’re running a straight black or red cowherd, we’d love to show you the benefit a Hereford bull can bring to the table.
We’ve never chased show ring fads or been obsessed with purple ribbons, but we will take our cattle out from time to time so people can see them. Look for our entries at FarmFair, the Calgary Bull Sale and Medicine Hat Bull Sale.
