The Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication is a four-year degree program with exciting career outcomes for a new generation of creative professionals. Examples of career paths include communication designer, art director, creative director, studio principal, illustrator, in-house designer/illustrator, concept artist, interactive designer, user experience designer - and more! The curriculum is rigorous, industry-focussed, and responsive to cultural change and technological advances; students graduate with highly relevant knowledge and skills.
The degree replaces, and builds upon, the successful IDEA (design and illustration) diploma program, which has gained a reputation throughout Canada for effective, industry-ready graduates. New for the degree are opportunities to specialize in branding, illustration or interactive design beginning in third year, a three month practicum in fourth year, and a variety of breadth courses to enable students to build connections between visual communication and the contexts in which it is practiced.
All-day classes in dedicated studios provide students with an intense learning experience, a close peer-support network, and a high level of faculty feedback. Each student has a personalized desk space. The cost of laptops, cameras, professional association memberships, colour printing, an art materials kit, and other tools, are built into tuition fees.
We are looking for students with talent, passion, goals, and a desire to grow, learn, collaborate and contribute to this exciting field. Our student body is made up of a wide range of ages and backgrounds. Some come straight from high school; others already have degrees in other fields.
