For over 100 years in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, the name “Burry” has been associated with the sea. In conditions as harsh and unforgiving as the Newfoundland and Labrador coastline, this family of mariners has played an important role in the major marine sector developments.

The Burry Group of Companies are well known in the following
trades: New build ships, ship repair and maintenance, supplying of materials to remote communities, dredging, building schools, wharves, supplying passenger ferries, shipping general cargo & off shore seismic projects, specialized machining and welding, and manufacturing of cathodic protection systems.

BSI is one of several marine orientated corporations owned by Mr. Glenn Burry. Combined companies (Norcon Marine Services, Eastern Foundry Ltd) has totaled up to 100 employees.

The Yard was re-constructed in the 1960’s to meet the Marine Industry requirements for that time. The yard has undergone many new upgrades since then including a major refurbishment in the mid 1990’s with upgrading/replacement of the marine railway and carriage system towards the end of 2008 and 2012, new 75 hp electric hauling motor, all new rollers, both chains, sheave, chain gear, shackles, a major portion of the carriage renewed/replaced and re-certified for 600Tons, and other misc items. In 2006, and new electrical modernized controller was also installed. The railway now has the capacity of handling vessels up to 600 Tons and has a Transfer set-up. The hauling items are now modernized to be now called NEW. The associated buildings house the infrastructure necessary for operating a full service shipyard and wharfing facility.

BSI has implemented the ISO 9001:2008 and was also involved in Hibernia with ship repair work and extensive machine shop work, and anticipates other specialized machine shop work will follow in the future. BSI is now expanding their machine shop abilities to CNC milling, in which we anticipate to be growing in this Province.

BSI is CWB Certified and is well recognized by the Newfoundland Provincial Department of Transportation, Canadian Coast Guard, Deptartment of National Defense, and other regular customers.

BSI has a fully trained staff and an excellent reputation with ongoing repair contracts available. The yards concentration in the recent past on its core customers base such as: Government of Newfoundland Labrador, Department of Works Services and Transportation, Government of Canada, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Canadian Coast Guard, Town of Clarenville, Commercial Fishing Vessels, and numerous local companies from the construction industry to the forestry industry.

BSI offers its clients cable, telephone and WIFI connections at two locations. Both at the front of the slip, and at the lower office for required wharf connections.

BSI also takes precautions for easy access all over the yard for yard equipment. Fire lines, power lines, freshwater lines, welding cables, etc… are all underground. There are no obstructions for cranes, trucks, forklifts, and other working equipment above ground, allowing easy access throughout the yard.

Shore power requirements from 110VAC to 600VAC are available.
