Details

Metal sculptor Brad Allen resides with his family in the Comox Valley and has been creating "Meddle Art" for more than twenty years. Brad's creations are borne of imagination, recycled iron and the pleasures of expression. The two and three dimensional sculptures represent Brad's passion for creativity. His work is considered to be joyful, nurturing and light hearted.

Using reclaimed iron as his medium, each piece having it's own story to tell, Brad explores diverse textures and colors. He uses his inspiration and inherent artistic ability to create wild, mystical magic from metal. "I like to create forms and figures in various interactive situations. I want them easily understood, then I add a surreal or abstract flavor to them. Different emotions are portrayed in the pieces such as love, passion and joy". There is a natural energy in each work that seems to draw one in.

Brad brings over thirty years of experience working with steel. He has combined his experience along with artistic ability to the cutting and finishing of these unique, hand crafted pieces. With the help of a torch, welder and array of metal finishing tools, he manipulates his meduim into shapes and forms. An arc is used to fuse pieces together. Using heat from a torch and different cooling techniques, Brad is able to create gorgeous colors ranging from earth tones to deep , penetrating blues. Many of his works are created from materials which have been colored using natural elements.

His desire to explore the positive sides of life result in works such as mythical figures, mysterious masks, global connections, aztec art and oriental symbols. These iron sculptures and wall hangings add artistic dimension equally well when displayed outdoors or in a favorite room in the home. Many metal works have found their way around the world from BC to Japan, Asia to Australia and can be seen on his website www.meddleart.com

Brads artwork can be found at The Old Schoolhouse Gallery in Qualicum, Comox Valley Art Gallery, and at his studio in Buckley Bay.
