Welcome to Bear's Paw Quilts

We've been in operation since 2002, offering quilting classes for the beginner to the intermediate, as well as beautiful quilts. We specialize in books, patterns, quilting tools and equipment, and kits with a northern look - whether it's the awe inspiring northern landscape or the flora and fauna of the boreal forests.

Whether your thinking of taking a quilting class, need quilting supplies or are visiting and would love to buy a beautiful piece of Northern art - you've arrived at the right place. Drop by, we'd love to see you.

Our logo, the Bear Paw Block, is over a hundred years old, having originated in pioneer America. As you might imagine, coming across a bear track while traveling a wilderness trail definitely signaled the traveler to proceed with all senses alert.

Quilters who wanted to make a quilt for someone who was planning a great or dangerous undertaking would often choose a Bear's Paw block design. According to the family history of Ozella McDaniel Williams, runaway slaves knew that Bear's Paw quilts marked the best northern route through the Appalachian mountain wilderness to food, water and eventual freedom.

All of this history was considered when we chose our name and we are very proud to have this powerful and beautiful design for our logo.

We also have a group of quilters who meet weekly to work on quilts we donate to the cancer patients at the Whitehorse General Hospital. Please feel free to join our group - beginner quilters are welcome!
