Welcome to American Studies at Western University! American Studies was established in 1984 to promote a greater understanding of the culture, history, and politics of the United States. We offer a wide range of courses in American Studies and strongly encourages research that is interdisciplinary in nature. We have 48 faculty associates drawn from Anthropology, English, Film Studies, History, Information and Media Studies, Law, Music, Political Science, and Women's Studies. In 2005 the Centre launched an interdisciplinary undergraduate program, and in 2010 Western became the first university in Canada to offer a Master of Arts program in American Studies.

The Centre operates to disseminate information regarding American Studies across the University and serves as a liaison with the educational outreach services of the United States Consulate. With the assistance of the Centre for American Studies, Western faculty and students have travelled, attended conferences, and studied in the United States. The Centre has mounted a number of conferences, round-tables, and graduate student colloquia, and hosts a dynamic annual Speakers' Series. Since 2007, the Centre has introduced three publications; the quarterly series, Critical Issues of Our Time, the student-run, on-line undergraduate journal, NeoAmericanist, and most recently, the graduate journal Body Electric.

With a vibrant undergraduate and graduate program, a highly touted Speakers's Series, and dynamic publications, the CAS has paved the way for interesting and innovative research and teaching on the history, politics, and culture of the United States. We are proud to be one of the foremost leaders in American Studies in Canada.
